RVanYC Wednesday Night Racing

Does anyone know if PHRF racing has started back up again from Royal Van? or when it will start up?

Royal Van has cancelled all racing for the time being and effectively the rest of the summer. Due to Social Distancing guidelines/concerns on the docks and at the Club, Wednesday Night Racing will not be happening until the provincial order changes.

Also, Hunter Lowden, RVYC’s Sailing Director, recently left his role after 6 years service for a new career.

RVYC’s Fraser River Lightship on Oct 3 still hasn’t been cancelled, but all the other official regattas have been cancelled due to trying to comply with provincial orders for Social Distancing of 6 person bubbles and maximum event attendees of 50. I also assume that there are significant liability issues and BC Sailing still hasn’t given guidelines for crewed keelboat racing.

There is double-handed racing out of WVYC on Wednesday’s and a small group continuing the TCYC/Kits YC Thursday Night racing.

There are some boats that are getting together for “Training” non-sanctioned/non-events every couple weeks. As these aren’t events, there are no rules, but it is recommended that boats have a max of 6 crew for training. To maintain physical distancing and account for short-handed crews, it is recommended that crew size be the length of the boat in metres divided by 2 metres. So a 40ft/12m boat would have 6 crew max, a 39-33ft/10-12m boat would have 5 crew max, a 26ft-32ft/8-10m boat would have 4 crew max, etc. Also helps if everyone drinks a different brand of beer and there is hand-sanitizer/etc. readily available.

Last time we went from Barge Buoy to QA and back and previously we went from Pt. Atkinson round Passage, Bowyer Island and back. Next up is likely the Not-Scramble-esque “training” sail on Aug 15. DM me to get added to the FB chat that discusses when we are “not” meeting up and where we are “not” heading to.
