Racing Documentaries

So I’m a big fan of documentaries in general, and sailing ones specifically. I would guess that there have been a bunch more good ones recently with the proliferation of action cameras and the like; anyone have recommendations?

I’ll start off by giving my current top three:

Whitbread Round the World Race

Deep Water

And a local one: Go Fast Go North

I love that Whitbread documentary, I did not realize it was on Youtube, thanks for pointing that out.

Of course you have the 2 great disaster races, Sydney Hobart (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEC6DQn6AZI ) and Fastnet (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHTKMGO0YYw)

Thanks, I found Go Fast Go North on Telus video on demand, I should have watched it before paying the race entry fee.

Weekend Sailor on Amazon Prime is another great doc. Mexican entry into the first Whitbread.

In my role as a screener for a local documentary festival I watch almost all the sailing films that are submitted. I could point you in the direction of films that show you what not to do, or how to do things badly, or how not to make a good sailing film.

I agree that Weekend Sailor was worth a watch. Very interesting to see how different things were back then.

VIFF is now (since yesterday) streaming “The Race To Alaska” , which looks quite good:

Just watched Coyote last night; very entertaining and well-produced, but it is something of a paean to Mike Plant.

Am still looking forward to “The Race To Alaska”, but it looks like that’s getting released in November.
